Making balls for borders

Using sugarpaste or modelling paste, borders of this kind are so simple yet extremely effective. The key is to get each piece the same size before rolling into a ball, this is achieved by using spacers and the same cutter each time.

You will need

1.Spacers   2.Corrugated foam   3.White fat (trex)   4.Icing sugar
5.Cutter   6.Rolling pin

Put your spacers into position and dust your work surface with icing sugar.

Choose the paste you wish to make balls from and roll out using the spacers.

Any cutter can be used, as long as the one you pick is the same one you use to do all the balls you need.

Cut out the paste.

Remove any excess paste.

Rub some white fat (trex) into your hands, this will bring out the colour in the balls and give them a shine. Also if you want to dust them with colour or make them into pearls it gives the dust something to stick to.

Place one of the piece's of paste into the palm of your hand, and using both palms roll the ball.

To get it as round as possible, finish by using the side of your hand and look at the shape you're making.

Put on the corrugated foam to dry.

When they have dried they are ready for using or dusting.

Now follow the "Making Edible Pearls" link to make small balls into pearls.
